Geologic Information

The origins of leopard skin jasper are still not well constrained. Composed of microcrystalline SiO₂, it can be called a true jasper, however the formation processes that lead to the creation of the multi-colored orbs within the rock are not yet fully understood. Likely formed through the flow of silica-rich rhyolite (a volcanic rock formed from lava), the patterns are created by this flow and the growth of minerals as it cooled.
