Geologic Information

The origins of leopard skin jasper are still not well constrained. Composed of microcrystalline SiO2, it can be called a true jasper, however the formation processes that lead to the creation of the multi-colored orbs within the rock are not yet fully understood. Likely formed through the flow of silica-rich rhyolite (a volcanic rock formed from lava), the patterns are created by this flow and the growth of minerals as it cooled.

Leopard Skin Jasper is a beautiful orbicular rhyolite with stunning patterns and veins in varying greens, yellows, and pinks. Found in several places throughout the world, historically the largest deposits have been mined in Mexico and shipped throughout the world.
