Banded Iron (aka Tiger Iron) is a very hard material and generally is safe in any environment. However, since it contains significant quantities of iron, this piece can be easily magnetized so care should be taken to avoid situations which could inadvertently scratch or damage it through contact with another piece of similar hardness.
