Tiger's Eye / Falcon's Eye Obelisk

This cool obelisk is carved from a massive deposit of Tiger's Eye (orange) and Falcon's Eye (blue).

Geologic Information

Thought to be formed by quartz (SiO2) replacing the mineral crocidolite (Na₂(Fe₃Fe₂)Si₈O₂₂(OH)₂), a fibrous mineral. This replacement is what causes the beautiful chatoyant or "cats-eye" effect in the Tiger's Eye stone.

Tiger's Eye was first described in scientific literature in the early 19th century, but was discovered by a French explorer and scientist named Francois Levaillant all the way back in 1784! Found in a few locations around the world, the earliest known examples are from South Africa but Tiger's eye has since been discovered in Australia, the U.S. and other places.
