Spessartine Garnet (China)

Up for offer here is a beautiful hand specimen of spessartine garnet [Mn₃²⁺Al₂(SiO₄)₃]. A gorgeous deep red, this specimen has dozens of euhedral garnets of varying sizes set in a matrix of microcline.

Geologic Information

Spessartine forms a solid solution with another garnet species, almandine. These garnets form most often in granite pegmatites (exceptionally coarse grained rocks rich in silica) and are found all over the world in varying shades of red and orange.
