Maligano Jasper Cabochon - 23 carats (18 mm x 18 mm)

Captured in this cabochon is a very cool snapshot of the geological processes that led to the creation of this fascinating rock with a silica filled vein running across the center of the piece carrying broken up pieces of the original rock.

This small square cabochon is another beautiful piece of Maligano jasper with bright yellow clasts contrasting with gemmy gray silica.

Geologic Information

Found on the island of Sulawesi in Indonesia, the large yellow clasts in this material are likely the original rock that was fractured through tectonic processes. Those fractures were then filled with hot hydrothermal fluid bearing high quantities of silica - as that fluid cooled, the silica was deposited as gemmy chalcedony and quartz.
