Crazy Lace Agate Cabochon - 43.25 Carats
Crazy Lace Agate Cabochon - 43.25 Carats
Formed during the Late Cretaceous (~90 - 65 million years ago), "crazy lace" agate is a breathtaking form of banded chalcedony (microcrystalline quartz)! Although agates are found all over the world, high-quality crazy lace agate typically is only found in remote regions of Mexico.
Often found in veins within deposits, crazy lace agate displays a stunning variety of colors, patterns, and nodules. Agate is a type of chalcedony, or microcrystalline quartz [SiO2]. The bands and nodules typically grow sequentially in cavities or fractures in pre-existing rock, with silica precipitating in layers of varying colors.
