A stone with a violent past and a beautifully coherent present.
This 56 carat cabochon was cut from a naturally brecciated agate nodule, likely formed during tectonic stress or hydrothermal activity that fractured and re-healed older chalcedonic material. The result is a mosaic of angular fragments suspended in translucent agate, with iron-rich staining enhancing the reds and creams. None of this is dyed just time, pressure, and silica.
The shape is a hand-carved freeform shield, with a high dome for maximum presence in a setting or display. Back is flat and polished. There’s mild translucence across several zones when backlit, and a light natural texture in one area of the breccia fill (visible in closeup).
Cut and polished in California by a geologist with a lapidary obsession. No stabilizers, no filler.
Ideal for:
- Jewelers designing dramatic, geologically-informed work
- Collectors drawn to fracture aesthetics and natural patterns
- Anyone who understands that chaos and beauty often come from the same place
